Description

Trois Chansons, M 69 was originally composed for choir in the tradition of 16th-century French chansons set to text written by Ravel himself. The songs are his only compositions for a cappella choir.

Composition was begun in December 1914 and completed during 1915, first being performed in 1917. All three songs handle loss alongside irony and humour. Ravel worked on the set while he was waiting to enlist to fight for France at the outbreak of World War I.

They are here presented in an arrangement for brass quintet by Josh Cirtina, commissioned by the Københavns Messingkvintet.
