Description

In writing his collection of twelve concerti, L’Estro Armonico, Vivaldi single-handedly redefined the parameters of instrumental music in the eighteenth century. Published by Estienne Roger in 1711, the selection includes works for one, two, and four solo violins, all with string accompaniment. The Concerto in A minor for solo violin is Vivaldi’s sixth offering, and employs the traditional concerto grosso style, alternating tutti passages with virtuosic solo elements. The tessitura of this work is ideally suited to the piccolo trumpet, and in recent years it has become a popular addition to the repertoire.
