Description
Though little is known of des Prez’s early life, records indicate that he served as a chorister in Aix-en-Provence, and latterly in the papal choir in Rome. Heralded as the greatest composer of his age, he wrote in both sacred and secular forms, with his considerable output containing masses, motets, chansons, and instrumental music. The four-part instrumental fanfare Vive le Roy was composed for the coronation of Louis XII at Reims in 1498, during de Prez’s period as a musician in the French Court in the early sixteenth century.
