Description

Arioso (after J.S. Bach) is an original composition for trombone and piano that borrows prototype musical materials by Bach and recycles them, melting them together to make something new. Specifically, the piece is made from the melodic and rhythmic patterns of the third movement of the Bach Flute Sonata in E minor, BWV 1034, and the harmonic framework of the Bach Sinfonia No. 11 for keyboard, BWV 797. The result does not sound like Bach but does retain a feeling and essence of the original. Arioso was written for, and dedicated to my daughter in her journey as a trombone player.
