Description

Composed separately between 1885 and 1894, these songs have been published in various guises, however are most commonly found as a set of three as in the present edition. Those familiar with the Elgar of Nimrod and the Pomp and Circumstance marches might struggle to recognise his style in these works, which demonstrate the frequently overlooked versatility of this composer. Set to the poetry of Barry Pain (The Shepherd’s Song), John Hay (Through the Long Days) and Froissart/Longfellow (Rondel), the songs are ideally suited to performance on trumpet, fitting comfortably within the compass of the instrument.
