Description

Edward Elgar is one of England’s most celebrated composers, having achieved a permanent place in the psyche of the nation through evergreen works such as his Pomp and Circumstance Marches and the Enigma Variations (particularly Nimrod).

Salut d’Amour was completed in 1888, and presented to Caroline Alice Roberts as an engagement present, ahead of their marriage the following year. The soaring violin melody transfers particularly well to performance on trumpet, and it is a useful piece as an interlude at weddings.
