Description

Bartók’s Mikrokosmos is a collection of 153 compositions for piano, completed in 1939 and organised into six volumes that progress in difficulty from didactic pieces for beginner piano students through to professional concert pieces. Bartók did not intend the cycle as a ‘piano method’, omitting theoretical and technical instructions, but rather as a repertoire to which the study of other composers, such as Bach and Czerny, could be added. March and Ostinato are numbers 147 and 146 respectively from the sixth volume, but in this arrangement for brass septet are presented in reverse order to provide a two-movement concert piece.
