Description

Within the most precise qualification of a neoclassical work, the gorgeous ‘Mellanspel’ (‘Interlude’) from Stenhammar’s cantata Sången, Op. 44 (‘The Song’) does not pass muster.  Yet Stenhammar could etch a score with remarkable allusions to classicism. Here, the succinct periodic beauty, with its timeless Brucknerian choral echoes, finds a place at the end (and at the edges) of our project.
