Description

John Stanley was born in London and spent the bulk of his career as a composer and performer there. A supreme talent, his brilliant organ playing attracted the attentions of such luminaries as Handel, who would often visit Temple Church (where Stanley was based) in order to hear him play. Today he is perhaps best known for his sets of organ voluntaries, which have become particularly popular as music to accompany wedding processionals.

It has become standard practice to adopt voluntaries of this kind for performance on trumpet and organ, particularly in the manner of the piccolo trumpet tradition popularised by the great Maurice André. This version includes ample rests for the trumpet soloist in order to ensure playability, and is suitable for performance on both trumpet in D and piccolo trumpet in A.

Parts included:

  • Organ
  • Trumpet in D
  • Piccolo Trumpet in A
