Description

During the 19th century, a tradition emerged of setting vocal exercises to piano accompaniment, based on the assumption that singers would execute them more musically due to the addition of harmony. Several notable composers wrote such Vocalise studies, which came to be seen as genuine musical works in their own right. This work was published in 1906   as part of a compilation by various composers for students at the Paris Conservatoire, where Fauré was director at the time. The piece is ideally suited to performance on the trumpet, comfortably sitting within the technical range of the instrument.
