Description

Jeremiah Clarke was a student of John Blow, the influential composer of what is generally considered to be the first English opera: Venus & Adonis. Another pupil of Blow’s was Henry Purcell, who would go on to become one of Britain’s most celebrated composers, so it is perhaps unsurprising that this work was wrongly attributed to Purcell for many years.

It has become standard practice to adopt works of this kind for performance on trumpet and organ, particularly in the manner of the piccolo trumpet tradition popularised by the great Maurice André. This version includes ample rests for the trumpet soloist in order to ensure playability, and is suitable for performance on both trumpet in D and piccolo trumpet in A.

Parts included:

  • Organ
  • Trumpet in D
  • Piccolo Trumpet in A
