Description

Mahler’s setting of Urlicht (“Primeval Light) was composed in 1893 and forms part of his cycle of songs based on Des Knaben Wunderhorn (The Youth’s Magic Horn), a collection of German folk poetry compiled by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano in the early nineteenth century. It is probably best known to brass players as the beautiful fourth movement of his Symphony No. 2.
