Tchaikovsky has long been a favourite with audiences around the world. A prolific composer across numerous genres, his ballet scores for Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty remain his most famous works, whilst his biography provides an intriguing backdrop against which we can attempt to better understand his output.
The 7 Romances (of which this is the sixth) were composed in 1880. The typically impassioned and exhilarating style ideally suits the idiom of the trumpet, which has a rare opportunity to enjoy a fully-fledged piano accompaniment from one of the greats of the Romantic era.
