Rimsky-Korsakov was instrumental in the development of a strong Russian nationalistic style of music during the 19th century, as a member of the group of composers known as ‘The Five’, which also included Mily Balakirev and Modest Mussorgsky. Although best known for his orchestral output, Rimsky-Korsakov also composed a significant number of songs. Ideally suited to performance on the trombone, this is the second of a group of four entitled In Spring, composed in 1897.
